I always start September by wondering what happened to the summer – even now, as a tutor rather than a teacher, when I work for most of the summer holidays. The summer holiday always seems so long (6 weeks!) and yet passes so quickly that it catches me out year after year.
This September I was determined to tick something off my ‘To Do’ list that has been on there ever since I started Gloucestershire Primary Tutors five years ago. Being in a position of running my own company, I had always wanted to support a local charity that works with children who find the challenges of the modern world tough to navigate and require additional support and guidance. There were, of course, lots of charities that I could have chosen but in the end I settled on Headspace, a charity based in Bourton-on-the-Water who support children and teenagers to navigate the ups and downs of modern life.
My pledge is that for every tutoring session completed and paid for, I will donate 50p to Headspace which I hope to equate to roughly £50 per month and £600 per year, not a huge amount but hopefully enough to make a difference.
I sometimes wonder how children today navigate the pitfalls of modern life, bombarded by the demands of social media on top of trying to achieve at school and fit-in socially. It’s no wonder that charities like Headspace are needed to help provide clarity and focus and help to drown-out the ‘white noise’.
When I set up Gloucestershire Primary Tutors, it was with the aim of giving the individual child confidence to go out and achieve all that they could, to step away from the classroom, to breathe and focus upon what really matters. A positive experience with education and positive mental health are entwined, and at Gloucestershire Primary Tutors we are determined and committed to promoting both.
If you think that your child would benefit from additional confidence tutoring, please do get in touch.
